"When Love and Skill Work Together...
expect a masterpiece." These words are by John Ruskin, but could have easily been describing the work of Dick Beasley (1934-1992) who produced one masterpiece after another. Beas' warm, vibrant spirit and limitless creativity can be felt in all of his art. But behind his brilliant use of color, and letterforms as his subject, there are unifying factors that make his pieces work. We will analyze what he did, study how he worked and used tools, methods, and color, along with a strong sense of design to from rich and unique paintings. We will write with wooden tools, experiment with mosaic patterns, put our work under running water, and more. Most importantly, we will get over the fear of designing a work of art by using our newly found toolbox full of fun stuff and surprises, putting us on the path to creating our own masterpieces using letters.
