To make a good painting, calligraphic or otherwise, it is important to understand the elements* and principles** of art. We begin by observing the world around us and identifying these principles at work. We will look at modern art and current calligraphy through the same lense. In this workshop we will experiment with creating color palettes, making small designs isolating each of the principles of art, and exploring the combination of words, emotions and calligraphy as they relate to these ideas. The elements and principles of art are akin to a musician's scales, chords and melodies. This knowlegde base gives courage to your imagination.
