Within the folds of nature are the secrets of making a good painting, calligraphic or otherwise. This workshop begins with a slide show on the elements* and principles** of art as they appear in nature, modern art and current calligraphy. This starts us on the path of making calligraphic paintings.

Create palettes using primary and complementary colors, understand the golden ratio, make small paintings isolating the principles of art, and explore the combination of words, emotions and calligraphy as they relate to these ideas.

The elements and principles of art not only help in creating a painting, they are tools we can use if we get stuck during the process. This knowledge base gives courage to the imagination, and seeing ourselves as part of nature provides a safety net.
